It will be seen that, generally speaking, the route by P.& 0. via India is cheaper in the case of first class officers but more expensive in that of second class officers; and it may be considered advisable to book

passages, as a general rule, while the present conditions continue, for first class officers by P.& 0. and for second class by Nippon Yusen. This course would have the advantage

that first and second class officers would not be called

upon to travel by the same class over a portion of the journey as is the case at present on the P.& 0. steamers, which are all classed as mail boats, since many first class officers are entitled to passages first class by inter- mediate or second class by mail. In deciding, however, by
